Lindsay McFarlane

Lindsay is a Clinical Psychologist who offers a warm and compassionate approach and is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where individuals can feel comfortable to explore issues that are troubling them. She has experience working with children, youth and parents, in need of psychological support in research, hospital and clinical settings.

Lindsay values the importance of early intervention and has a particular interest in working collaboratively with parents to address challenging child behaviours and emotional concerns and to support the cohesion of healthy families. Lindsay also has expertise treating emotional disorders, such as depression and anxiety, and issues common to children, young people and their families such as sleep and eating issues, appearance concerns, academic stress, transitions, self-esteem, relationship difficulties and tics and repetitive behaviours.

Lindsay offers comprehensive treatment planning, outcome monitoring and effective, evidence-based therapy for children, young people and their parents. She primary works within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy framework for individual therapy and a Parent Management Training framework for child behavioural and emotional concerns. Lindsay also draws from other treatment modalities that she has trained in including, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Collaborative & Proactive Solutions.

Lindsay also works part time at The Child Behaviour Clinic, a research and treatment clinic that specialises in child behavioural difficulties including non-compliance, defiance, aggression and meltdowns.

She is an accredited provider of the Cool Kids Anxiety Program which can be delivered both face to face and online via Telehealth. The Cool Kids Anxiety Program is a structured 10 session program run over a minimum of 10 weeks that teaches children and their parents how to better manage a child’s anxiety. The Program is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), involves the participation of children and parents, and focuses on teaching practical skills. Topics covered in the Program include:

  • Learning about anxiety

  • Learning to think realistically

  • Parenting an anxious child

  • Facing fears using stepladders and

  • Learning coping skills such as assertiveness or problem solving

Cool Kids was developed by Macquarie University and has been running since 1993. The Program has undergone continual scientific evaluation and development to include the latest understanding of anxiety and its treatment. It has been translated into a number of languages and today, is used in clinics, schools and hospitals around the world.

Lindsay has completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology at The University of Sydney. She is a full member of both the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. Lindsay values the importance of working in harmony with individuals and their loved ones and provides strategies which assist in delivering positive change.
