Josephine Atwell

Josephine is a kind and collaborative Psychologist that is undergoing her Clinical Psychology Registrar training. Josephine provides a non-judgemental space for young people and their families. Josephine appreciates the importance of an inclusive, neuro-affirming, and open-minded approach where all individuals are valued and heard.

Josephine has experience working with children, young people, and parents in public health and university settings. She has a particular interest in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in young people. She completed her clinical placement at OCD BOUNCE at Sydney Children’s Hospital, delivering evidence-based treatment to young people with OCD. She has also completed placements at the University of Sydney, Child Behaviour Research Clinic, and Naamuru Parent/Baby Inpatient Unit.

Josephine is passionate about equipping clients with the skills to manage: perinatal-specific difficulties, anxiety, depression, gender identity and sexuality concerns, and challenging behaviours. She endeavours to help individuals take steps towards their personal goals and develop the tools to cope with what is troubling them. Josephine mainly draws on a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework, taking influence from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Parent Management Training.

Josephine has completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Sydney. During her studies, she received several awards for academic performance and collaboration. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA) and continues to work with the University of Sydney in a research and teaching capacity.
